David Beckett is one of Canada's leading portrait photographers, particularly well known for his work with children. Spontaneous,  fresh and instantly recognizable, Beckett's art inevitably captures the personality of each of his subjects.   Working out of his Wallace Avenue studio in central Toronto, Beckett carefully builds a relaxed and playful atmosphere bringing a sense of excitement and collaboration to the session. Working exclusively in black and white, Beckett hand prints all of his work producing museum quality silver gelatin prints. The final portrait is testament to his ability to capture the spirit of each individual on film.

David is a third generation portrait photographer. His grandfather Hubert Beckett, based in Hamilton Ontario, began his career photographing children in 1925. He continued his portrait work until his death in 1967. Hubert was highly regarded and won many photographic competitions as a member of the Ontario Society of Photographers. David's father Thomas Beckett worked with Hubert for fifteen years from 1952 to 1967. Following his photography years, he made a career change, becoming an art dealer. Beckett Gallery was established in 1966, Thomas retired thirty years later.
