Founded in 1971 by Trevor Clement, Clement Marine Services humble start began with dive works maintaining harbour swimming pools carried out by Trevor and his father, before moving on to the construction of foundations for the Western Distributor around Darling Harbour.
Clement Marine Services was sold by Trevor Clement in 1983.
Mark Steele purchased Clement Marine Services in 1988 with a small barge and a workboat. Mark, originating from a carpentry background, learnt the trade from his peers over the years preceding the purchase of the company through subcontracting. One of the larger projects that Mark was employed on was the Pier 26 development in Darling Harbour, completed as part of the Darling Harbour redevelopment in 1987.
Mark used his knowledge of machinery to make several key purchases to build the assets of the company, broadening its ability to complete larger scale marine works for the time.
In 1995 Clement Marine Services constructed its first major marina in Sydney, 24 berths for the Sylvania Marina. Through the late 90’s several other marinas were constructed including the 74 berth Wollstonecraft Marina as part of the Wondakiah development for Multiplex.
This lead to the introduction of Clement Marine Services to developers, namely Multiplex who then engaged Clement Marine Services to carry out its biggest project to that date, the $8 million dollar ferry and charter boat terminal at King Street Wharf, Darling Harbour as part of the King Street Development.
Whilst contracted by Clement Marine Services through his previous employer to manage the construction of King Street, Richard Oppedisano was introduced as a young graduate engineer to Mark Steele. On completion of the project, Clement Marine Services employed Richard to help in the daily running of projects constructed by Clement Marine Services.
The introduction of the better boating program, a NSW government initiative to improve marine assets around the state, allowed Clement Marine to grow at a steady rate completing most of the boat ramp upgrades in the Sydney harbour and Georges River areas.
2011 was a turning point for Clement Marine with the award of the high profile project to replace the boardwalk around the Park Hyatt at Campbells Cove, as well as the construction of a 450t concrete pontoon and piling works at Circular Quay for NSW Maritime.
In 2013, the word Services was dropped from the title and Clement Marine is now known as Clement Marine Constructions, to assist in market understanding of the works partaken.
Since then the company has grown to have 28 staff, numerous small and large barges, cranes, excavators and vehicles to enable it to complete all facets of marine construction along the east coast of Australia and prides itself as being Sydney’s oldest, and one of its most reputable waterfront companies
