Where do I begin?! Jude Melton is fantastic! Her knowledge and education is more than outstanding. My husband and I get along with her very well and love her dearly. I always felt comfortable my whole pregnancy and birth. Jude was always there when I needed her whether I had a question, concern, or even just to talk about my pregnancy and eventually my baby. She goes above and beyond for her clients and truly cares about you. I absolutely loved having her as my midwife and would love to have her be my midwife again for future babies.

Jude has been my midwife and women's health provider for 5 years. She has provided me with competent, compassionate care through 6 pregnancies. She has been an amazing support though my struggles with IVF and loss as well as present for the joyful experience of delivering 2 healthy babies. Not only that, but when I've needed womens health care like a pap or labs drawn she has always been able to draw on her experience as a phlebotomist to get fast easy labs results. I feel that she is great at giving her clients complete holistic care and not just meet the minimum clinical care standards.
She is one of the wisest women I know. She offers so many resources and knowledge that I feel confident, informed and empowered in the choices I make regarding my health and the health of my babies. She practices midwifery with such expertise and safety that I can't imagine birthing with anyone else!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kaela S.Mesa, AZ043Aug 4, 2018
I love Jude! She is super thorough and really takes her time to make sure baby and I are doing well. She spends time getting to know me and my family which I really appreciate. With her experience, knowledge, and the cautions she takes I know that we are in good hands and safe. About to deliver my 2nd baby at home with Jude and I can't wait!

Do not recommend her. She is a nice person to talk to but I think she is all talk and it's time for her to retire. I don't trust her medical opinion after everything I went through. As I got closer to my due date and my appointments were weekly it's like every week I had to tell her the same thing as if she had never heard. And as soon as I go over my due date shes like oh you need to go to the doctor it's like any little thing oh you need to go get an ultrasound. I did have some bleeding and was put on bed rest for a little but after I was cleared she was like oh I can't feel his head you should get an ultrasound, I'm not sure how he's laying you should get an ultrasound, the whole point of going with a home Birth was to it deal with all of that little as possible! But it's like she didn't want to deal with me so she wanted to pawn me off. When I went into labor at midnight and right away my contractions were 1-2 min apart so my husband calls her and shes like oh she's fine(we think she just wanted to go back to sleep) so eventually she came over at almost 7 in the morningShe recommended a doula Jillian, which I am also extremely disappointed in her as well. They sat at the table in my house online shopping while I was dealing with contractions 1-2 min apart. What was I paying them for??? My husband and mother took care of me so much better then Jillian and Jude did!! I think jude wants doulas so she doesn't have to work very hard. My very first midwife told me that and I should of gone with my gut. After being in labor for about 12 hours of constant contractions I had finally dilated a little more and she put me in the pool, stupid of me thinking it was almost time to push since I was having a water birth she disappears!! My husband goes to find her and she says it's time for me to slow down the birth?? What the hell that was such a huge let down I was exhausted and then hear her say get in the pool so I got my hopes up thinking my baby boy was going to be here soon. Nope so my husband got after her and so she's like oh well then get out of the pool. She broke my water hoping to get me to dilate past a 6 it didn't work so we had to go to the hospital. Thank God we went to the hospital I do not trust jude to have taken care of me and my sons medical needs! After my back up OB heard what happened and why I wasn't dilating past a 6 he was shocked she didn't know how to help me it was because of some scar tissue and he said all she would of needed to do was rub the scar tissue and it would of just opened me right up and he would of been out so much sooner!! After 31 hours of labor my son finally came and we were taken care of so much better at the hospital I lost a lot of blood my son had a fever. I'm so glad she didn't know what she's doing because myself and my son could of been in a horrible situation at home with her! Do not listen to her advice or recommendations! Oh and another thing after I went through all of that the next day I text her to tell her about my son and she has the nerve to tell me she just got home from a successful home birth and the mom did so great! Some advice don't ever tell a woman who wants a home birth that it didn't happen that your next client was able to do it that's the meanest thing you can say to a woman who couldn't have a home birth!!
The only time I stated concern was after I had bleeding not at the end. At the end you seemed more concern. And The only thing concerning with "testing" was for the hep B was when you recommended Hibiclens to pass the test which I denied because it's against the law and didn't make sense because if I was positive but used that it could of been bad when I delivered and as far as ultrasounds I had at least 6 and that was more than plenty when all you had to do was wait 5-10 more min before you felt and could tell that he was head down and in the right position and he had been in that position weeks prior but you couldn't remember and that's where my frustration was. I didn't ask what was the difference of a midwife and a doula was, I stated that neither of you did what we paid you for and you were the one that recommended the doula. And it was my husband who finally chose to transfer care after talking to you. I did contact you personally and told you how I felt and no response. I understand that there are certain procedures/conditions you're not allowed to oversee so that's why we did transfer and that's why I also stated that I thanked god that we did because I knew you couldn't tend to our medical needs and a doctor was needed. Again for the reason of my response I fully understand why I was transferred and wasn't upset that we transferred I'm upset for your lack of care for when we were at home and some of your visits at the end of prenatal care.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Please allow me to clarify and address the concerns that you've mentioned in your review. You expressed concern regarding the reasons for prenatal testing at the end of your pregnancy. Laboratory testing and ultrasounds are essential to the health and well being of the client and her baby. Whenever a midwife recommends these procedures, it is always in the best interest of the client and in some circumstances, it is required. I'm glad that we were able to rule out potential conditions during your pregnancy.
You stated that you were unsure of the difference between a Midwife and a Doula. A Midwife and a Doula have very different roles. A Midwife's job is to provide prenatal care, assist with birth and to provide postpartum care. A Doula's role is to provide comfort and support during the labor and birth. I'm sorry that the Doula you chose didn't meet your expectations. May I suggest that you contact her directly to express your feelings.
Labor and birth can sometimes be unpredictable requiring transport to a facility to receive a higher level of care. It is a Midwife's responsibility to recognize situations that are better handled in the hospital. A labor pattern without progress after many hours usually indicates an underlying problem. It is always a difficult decision to transfer care and it is unfortunate that you were not able to have a home birth.
I hope that my response helps you to better understand the circumstances and the reason for transport. Everything was done with careful consideration and your safety in mind. I would be happy to speak with you so please feel free to contact me personally.Jul 9, 2018Previous reviewDo not recommend her. The whole reason we went with a midwife was to have a more personal experience but when it came down to me in labor she sat at the table and every once in awhile she'd pop in to check me and my sons heartbeat and then disappear again. - Desiree R.Cocoa Beach, FL2529Apr 17, 2018First to Review
Jude Melton is a very friendly and talkative woman. She likes to share a lot about herself which is awesome. I chose Jude for a homebirth for my 3rd child. This was going to be my 1st homebirth. I was a little on the nervous side with how things would go because Jude sometimes would over-explain things to where they didn't make sense to me. As far as payments went, I felt she also didn't explain them to the fullest until last minute or until I got my mother involved.
Appointments were very easy. She did take into consideration that I had a 2yr old and a 1yr old and she understood when I couldn't make an appointment. I love the fact that she shares a bit of info about herself. I enjoy talking to her and hearing her stories. As far as birthing goes, when the time finally came, I told her my water broke. She told me we have about 24hrs to get my baby out. It kind of stressed me out. I started noticing blood and the contractions were ridiculously strong. She still didn't think it was time and she told me she'd be there in about 2hrs (we live 12mins away from each other). I couldn't take it anymore, in pain, wondering if and when she'll come. I went to the hospital screaming at the top of my lungs. My son was born like an hour later completely covered in meconium. Don't get me wrong, I love Jude. She's has a very beautiful soul but I do wish she'd be a little more up to speed on things, especially for someone like me who is a little shy, worry-wort. If I would've stayed home waiting for her, I probably would've had my son unassisted and covered in meconium and I would have been very scared. I'm giving 3 stars because I enjoyed Judes company but I did not feel fully satisfied with her business.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for taking the time to review the Midwifery Care you received. It is always my goal to create a warm environment for my clients and their families during this special time. I'm glad that you felt comfortable during your visits and that your prenatal appointments met your expectations. I enjoyed working with you and your family very much. Sometimes labor and birth patterns vary from what was expected. I'm sorry that our communication wasn't clear, leading to your decision to voluntarily transfer to the hospital. After reviewing your records, I noted inconsistencies with some of the details regarding your labor and birth and would be happy to share this information with you. Please feel free to contact me. Again, please accept my heartfelt apology.

Jude was absolutely amazing. We chose to use her because of her reputation as well as her experience. When my wife went into labor she pushed for awhile in the water and somehow Jude knew EXACLY what would make the difference. She said it was time to get her out of the water and sit on the birth stool. When my wife did that my son shifted and my wife was able to get right back into the water and push him right out. I have no idea how Jude knew that that was what needed to be done. (prob has to do with 14 plus years of experience being a midwife.) Anyway my son was born "sunny-side-up." I understand that that is very rare and makes is a lot harder to push the baby out. Thank you sooooooo much Jude for making the difference when it mattered most. Jude alos provided amazing care throughout my wife's pregnancy always taking the time to talk. I legitimately got that she cared about us and was careful about any and all concerns. I got the sense that she would not hesitate to do the right thing regardless of how it made her look, regardless of how hard she had to work..... BTW my son was born in the middle of the night and Jude came right over without hesitation. and was at our house till about 5am taking care of my wife and son. Thanks again Jude!

I highly recommend Sunrise Midwifery. Jude from the very beginning was very accommodating and transparent on the services provided. I had transferred care to Jude at 25 wks from a larger ob where I was treated like just another drop in the bucket. It was refreshing to be treated as a beautiful warrior princess as us women are. This was my 3rd birth but first home birth so it was a little out of my comfort zone that I knew. But this was the most beautiful non stressful thing I've done to date. We welcomed our beautiful baby girl in the comfort of our own home and we thank Jude for providing through prenatal care and postpartum care for both me and my daughter!

After having two babies, one with a doctor at a hospital and the other with a nurse midwife in a hospital, I decided I'd have my third baby at home. I was recommended to go to Jude by a friend of mine who is a previous client. Jude was very resourceful during my pregnancy. I called her for anything I was unfamiliar with and she always answered. I had one ultrasound during this pregnancy to see if my baby was a boy or girl; we were having a boy! I was 39 weeks + 3 when I went into labor. She suggested many things during the labor such as a warm bath, my labor ball, crawling... this sped things up very quickly. I called her to come when I was 3-5 min apart; she arrived shortly after when I was 1-2 min apart. Like most midwives, she came the hour before my son was born, which is why doulas are usually recommended. She helped me with my breathing, low guttural noises to open up, lavender oil in the diffuser, etc. Afterwards, she ensured baby and I were okay. I had my baby 6/24/18 and just had my post partum visit. Everything is and was great with Jude. I would recommend her to my best of friends.

Thank you Sierra for taking the time to leave a review. I really enjoyed working with you and your family. You labored and birthed your baby so beautifully. Your a great mom, so caring and calm with all that's going on in your life. I know we'll continue to stay in touch and I look forward to watching your baby grow.

I had one ultrasound during this pregnancy to see if my baby was a boy or girl; we were having a boy! Jude was also into holistic medication when it was needed.
