Quality care! Fantastic Ophthalmologist too. Spends time and listens to his patients. We need more doctors like Dr. Reiter.

I have been a patient of Dr. Reiter for over 20 years. He has a great practice. Karen really gets things done. Liz knows how to help choose the right glasses and fit them to your face. They are all thorough, professional and friendly. My cousin was visiting from out of the country a few years ago and had an emergency eye situation. They were accommodating, acted quickly and are compassionate. Thank you Dr. Reiter, Karen, Liz and staff

Visited Dr. Reiter for my annual eye exam. COVID-19 times and this office feels safe because the staff takes all the precautions making me feel protected and safe. Karen processed all of my paperwork quickly. Chuck could not have been nicer and more efficient. Doctor was on time and thorough. Liz showed me frame after frame; I purchased a pair of very sporty sunglasses with great coverage for walking and hiking as well as some stylish DUTZ frames from The Netherlands. I cannot wait to pick them up. Love this office.

I arrived early and viewed the new frames that were on display.
Found one I just had to have. Dr. Reiter was on time. This doctor is thorough and professional. His staff is the same. All are very nice. After the exam, the optician had the frames I selected out and ready for measurement. I think the exam and the selection, measurement and purchase of the new frames took only one hour. I cannot wait to pick up my new glasses. This office has beautiful frames and, most important, the prescriptive lenses purchased here early in the year perfectly correct my vision (I purchased some prescriptive lenses in Fashion Island and spent plenty but the prescription is off so I do not wear them). My husband also is very happy with this doctor and the two pairs of glasses he purchased here recently.May 12, 2018Previous reviewDr. Reiter is my opthamologist and I have had only good to great experiences with him and his office. I trust him. Karen is the office manager and she is fantastic. I had one emergency visit on a Friday afternoon and this office handled it so efficiently and effectively. I do not think I could have received better care. I also purchased my last pair of glasses at this office; best pair yet. Love this office!!

To prepare for the dreaded eye exam at the DMV later this spring, I decided to update my reading glasses so I used my VSP plan to have my eyes examined. I always prefer an ophthalmalogist and Dr. Gary S. Reiter and his staff, Karen and Chuck, were extraordinary from the time I made my appointment by phone to my arrival and departure from their office. They let me try on diffraction frames at a leisurely pace and I was able to take selfies as a reference to what I want to consider when I return to order my frames. I hope to meet Liz, the optometrist, who was out the day I was there for my appointment. They have the latest equipment and I felt very comforted and cared for at their office which is clean, serene and part of a small mid-century design office complex in Newport Beach. Thank you for making my eye appointment in 2020, the year of clear vision, such a peaceful time. Now, I'm off to practice the written sample DMV tests online.

Dr. Reiter is a excellent ophthalmologist. I have been going to him for over 10 years. He does complex eye exams and treatment outcomes are excellent. His staff is very nice every time I go into his office. He even offers you coffee or water. My husband and two daughters go to him too. They except my insurance. I gladly pay when my deductible is not met. Good medical care is not free!

I have had numerous surgeries over the years: 3 knee "scopes,"4 total knee replacements, a heart stent, etc. I had considerable surgery room experience as a volunteer assistant during my pre-med college days, and have known dozens of physicians.
He has treated he for macular degeneration and cataracts. He did cataract surgery on each eye in December 2016 and January 2017. Both surgeries went very well. He and his talented staff were great during the pre and post surgery experiences.
In addition to his obvious outstanding surgical skills, Dr. Reiter is absolutely the most personable, caring, and follow up doctors I have known. His people skills are exceptional. He exudes warmth, caring, and encouragement. He is excellent at details, and follows up his patients with phone calls to see how they are doing. Indeed, he is truly a credit to his profession!
I recommend him without reservation!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Burnie P.Huntington Beach, CA02Sep 17, 2017
Don't go to this Doctor, his office is a bunch of crooks, I had a doctor referral from my doctor to get a exam for glasses, so I made an appointment and when I went to Dr, Reiter's office and they took all my paperwork and my insurance card and after my exam they informed me they don't take my insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket $175.00 . I asked them why they didn't tell me before I had the exam that they don't take my insurance (United Health Care), and they said, "oh" we did tell you. I was stupid for going to this Doctor. But I am not stupid when I am told we don't take your insurance. They never told me until AFTER they did the exam.

I am stunned to see this review. The visit in question occurred over 6 months ago. The patient was mistakenly referred to my office by his HMO Primary Care Physician. Since we are not a member of his HMO, my office manager offered to cancel his appointment at no charge. He insisted on the examination and then paid, after receiving a substantial cash discount, with his credit card. He could have cancelled this transaction after the examination if he was upset with the service, but did not. This bitter review is the first I have heard about his problem. My guess is that he finally came to the realization that he wasn't going to get his HMO to reimburse him and wants me to pay him to remove his negative post.

When I went to renew my California driver's license, I didn't pass the DMV eye examination and I had to have a doctor examine my eyes so that I could pass the DMV eye examination. Dr. Reiter and his staff performed very though eye examinations and determined that I had cataracts that needed to be removed in order to correct my vision.
Dr. Reiter and his staff, Karen, Yvette and Charles, were very comforting and supportive in helping me in reaching the decision to have the cataract surgery.
When it came time to have the surgery, Dr. Reiter explained every step of the operation and gave me detailed instructions on how to care for my eyes before and after the surgery
As a trained engineer, I saw Dr. Reiter take extensive measurements during his examinations of my eyes to make certain that the surgery would be successful.
I am comfortable knowing that Dr. Reiter and his staff are available if there is an emergency.
Dr. Reiter asked me if I wanted far or near lenses. I replied: "I want the lenses that you would have". I opted for the far lenses.
I am extremely crateful to Dr. Reiter for all of the professionalism and care that he exhibited in this journey of cataract surgery. My vision is very clear and sharp and colors are bright and vivid. I am thrilled that I had the cataract surgery and I am now seeing better that I have in many, many years.
I like to look at the stars and now I am now able to see the stars at night as individual points of light.
P.S. I passed the DMV eye examination.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cory M.Costa Mesa, CA221828Sep 25, 2014
My name is Cory M. I was a new patient to the office and called in the same day at 9 am for a last minute appt. Since i had a metal foreign object lodged in my eyeball. The staff was great she said come right over and will get you in. Arrived 15 minutes later walked in and a very warm inviting staff very clean and cozy office. Was brought right in and in 20 minutes the doctor had it out. I was amazed as to how sharp the doctor was and was very understanding and educational to what happened and the recovery for my eye. Could not imagine going blind this office has my business and referrals forever thanks again for being compassionate and not capitalizing on the moment. There fees are very reasonable giving you only have 2 eyes. Thanks

I will do James O. one better: I would give Dr. Reiter 7 stars if I could.
My story is that I needed to have cataract surgery in both eyes and I was a very cfomplicated medical case. I'll spare you the details of why but suffice it to say that it was a challenge to give me vision that would come close to even 20-40 after the surgery. I knew from friends in the medical community that Dr. Reiter has a reputation as an "opthamologist's opthamologist." Other opthamologists send him especially complex cases and patients come to see him from all over the world. So I decided to have him do my cataract surgeries on both eyes.
In sum, I obtained spectacular results. I now see 20-20 with one eye and 20-15 with the other with no side effects. And this is someone who before the surgery (and since I was about 12) couldn't cross a room without bumping into things because I was so extremely far-sighted without my corrective lenses. Dr. Reiter's follow-up care was also exceptional. For example, when I went for my first follow-up visit after my first surgery, Dr. Reiter saw a possible issue with my retina that, out of cauton, he wanted a retina specialist to look at, and although it was about 5:30m p.m., he was able to get me in to see the specialist about 15 minutes later. Now that's service! (Fortunately, the retina specialist said I was ok.)Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
