GO WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU WANT TO PAY MORE THAN QUOTED AND HAVE YOUR ITEMS DAMAGED
Our family recently moved from the Bay Area to NYC, and we were optimistic and excited about using this small business over one of the big moving companies. Had a very nice interaction with Ron via Zoom to look at our inventory, and got what seemed to be a very fair quote with a range of potential under/over charges based on the actual pack. Seemed reasonable to me.
Our move was scheduled for 2 days of packing and loading. The first day went smoothly. Second day is where things started to go downhill. The team showed up 4 hrs late because they "had another job to do first." Then about an hour into it, the foreman stopped and said "OK, we've reached your limit. If you want us to pack and load the rest of your stuff it will be extra." There were still a number of items sitting in our living room and bedroom, and we had a flight out of town the following day. What exactly were we supposed to do?! We agreed to let them pack and load our remaining items since we basically had no choice. This is essentially BLACKMAIL. To clarify, there was nothing in our inventory that they didn't see ahead of time, and we even got rid of multiple furniture pieces prior to the move. The price ended up being nearly $1000 more than the upper limit of the quote, which - to remind you - included a range for potential overages. Why even give a quote when you can just hold the customer's items hostage and demand whatever you want?
When our items arrived in NYC, we immediately noted a number of issues (see photos attached). An antique mirror had not been wrapped and was smashed. An antique bar had a shelf damaged from inadequate protection. Dresser (which they DROPPED) had a metal support beam bent and damaged. This is in addition to many items which were chipped, scratched or otherwise damaged. Clothing (such as suits) was thrown into the bottom of wardrobe boxes rather than hung. Many boxes contained 1-2 items with excessive amounts of paper, I can only assume to increase the amount of materials and up the charges. I filed a claim, but was told I did not have the proper protection and they gave me $400 for all the damage. The option of supplemental insurance was never explained to me, and moreover this was not normal wear and tear from moving, but rather negligent packing and protection.
CNYX lied about the price, did a poor job of packing and protecting our valuable items, and used excessive packaging to justify the increased price. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is because they did deliver the items on the correct day.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Lanny V.San Francisco, CA03Jan 8, 2024
Given that the initial estimates for my move from SF to NY (more precisely, New Haven) were half what other companies like United and Allied were estimating, I had my reservations about quality. In hindsight, no reservations were warranted. This company not only did what they said they would do, but allowed flexibility in variations to my evolving plans on what to move and what to leave behind. Definitely worth the value they offered and provided.
If you are planning cross - country move, CA-NY Express should be your first choice.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - Forrest H.New York, NY7813Feb 7, 2024
Very smooth and easy move from San Francisco to NYC! The movers on both sides were very professional, quick, and clear about every step. My rep, Ron was very helpful and stayed in touch throughout the entire process. I was impressed at how quick and easy the move went. Definitely recommended!!

Had a VERY smooth experience moving from SF to NYC at the end of 2022 through Ron and the team.
I was recommended this service through a friend who had made the move a few years earlier. I admit that I was expecting a bit of a chaos from such a long and arduous process, but Ron was punctual, responsive, and honest throughout the entire journey. He itemized my one bedroom apartment and gave me an accurate estimate from the jump. I ended up using the storage facilities on the NY side for a month without issue, and my stuff arrived promptly on my move-in day. I did find some minor damage to a few items - a 3-inch hole in a pleather pouf, a piece of bamboo furniture had split its leg, and my IKEA TV stand drawer was uneven - thankfully I packed most of my items in sturdy plastic boxes. The moving teams on both the pickup side in SF and drop off in NYC were extremely gentle with my items and packed them very thoroughly, I can imagine most of the damage occurring between storage.
Overall, the value and service is *excellent* for the price. I wasn't hit with any surprise bills or gimmicks. I would absolutely recommend this service, granted you're willing to put up with some minor damage (strongly recommend packing as much as you can yourself). Work with Ron if you can!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jennica R.Philadelphia, PA23315Apr 6, 2023
This is our 2nd move using CNYX and we would 100% recommend again!
Setting up our move, including getting an initial quote and updating our inventory, was very smooth. We loved the regular emails once the items were picked up so we could anticipate a delivery date too. Ron was excellent to work with throughout the process - very responsive and thorough! Our items arrived in good condition and on both ends of the move our local team was efficient, professional, and thorough.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lyman M.Austin, TX33Feb 12, 2024
We needed a local mover that could efficiently pack up our whole apartment, put it in affordable storage, and hold onto it until we knew where we were going to move long term. We were moving away from California but did not know where we were going to live long term, so needed this more flexible option. Ron and team were very easy to work with, responsive (which is rare in moving companies) and flexible based on our needs. The movers on the day of packed up our whole unit with no issues or breakages, and were very professional and tidy. Ron and team made it easy, which is rare!

After posting my review in BBB, John from customer service helped address most of our issues - the ones that he could - and was able to offer a refund of the items we had to replace or were damaged. Not all businesses do that, so thanks for that.
He also helped clarify that the cost of the packaging ultimately was half than what had been stated to us, but no one could figure out why the price tag was initially so high.
Still, I'm miffed by many of the things we experienced and was hoping for something a lot smoother given than my previous cross-country move with another company was nothing like this - or with this price tag.
I suppose with everything, there's a bit of trust involved. I do appreciate John and CANYX's efforts to make things right.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 1Aug 14, 2020Previous reviewDon't use this company. They have not responded to my complaints, which I share for you here:
Things started off great with quick responses from customer service and a sleek interface for getting a quote. The quote was pricey, but I decided that it must be because of the distance and good service. I was wrong. Things go downhill from here.
The move out of our 2 bedroom 1.5 bath apartment took 5 hours. We packed 100% of the items, so it is unclear why it took so long. When we moved out of our same-sized apartment, the movers from another company took 2 hours. Even my neighbors commented that they were surprised the movers were at the apartment for so long.
The movers spent excessive time and material wrapping and tapping items including those that did not require wrapping (e.g., a foam dog bed, a plastic desk chair mat, a plastic garbage can). The total charge for wrapping was $1,400, which is excessive. (Oh, and the plastic desk chair mat broke and has a big crack in it.)
The movers dropped several boxes on the ground outside when loading them on a dolly to move them from the property into the truck. There is damage to various items. None of them are priceless, but it is very disappointing given the price tag for this move. They also didn't inform me that it happened. I watched it happen through the window. Very unprofessional.
I was not allowed to verify the cubic feet in the truck, which would have been important to confirm that it matched the quoted number. Our movers to CA (other company) allowed us into the truck and showed the markings on the side that indicated how much space had been used with our items.
There was a huge issue with billing since the transaction was canceled as it was processing. They asked me to run a different credit card even though my bank had shown the withdrawal. Very shady. The issue is likely with their credit card processing vendor Clover, but there was a deep lack of empathy and ability to come up with a solution that would resolve any additional stress. I asked multiple times to get the accounting team to talk with my bank, and the customer service rep refused to put me in contact with them.
The movers scuffed the wall in both of my apartments.
The movers took with them a package of face masks that I had out for myself that was near where they put their coats/things and was not there when they left. They didn't pack the masks with any of my items. I assume this was by mistake.
The movers broke my water filter by dropping it on the ground after using it to pour water. I bought the movers Gatorade, but they used up all the gatorade and asked to use the Brita filter. They broke it when attempting to refill it.
This list has also been sent to the company, and they have not responded.
Not worth the money. I would not recommend it. - Caitlyn F.San Francisco, CA1413May 17, 2021
This is a truly terrible moving company.
To begin with - I would say that these movers are not only unprofessional - in that they did a terrible job packing our furniture that caused a lot of unnecessary damage and headache. But that they were also dishonest and had absolutely zero customer service.
The movers on the SF leg (pick-up) for our move did an awful job wrapping our furniture, which they charged us extra for - stating that our storage company had not done a sufficient job wrapping (and so they unwrapped and rewrapped our items). When our stuff arrived on the East Coast our NY based moving crew commented several times what a bad job they had done wrapping our items.
When I requested to be reimbursed for the wrapping - that I didn't authorize to begin with and for which they did a terrible job - I was told that I should just expect this kind of damage in a cross-country move. Excuse after excuse was made for the condition of our stuff and for our overall (terrible) moving experience. If your stuff is going to show up damaged because they can't properly wrap furniture and they treat your items like garbage while on the move - then why bother to spend 11k+ to have it moved to begin with??
At the end of the day we ended up paying close to what we had been quoted from far more reputable moving companies but ended up having an awful experience and weeks of inconvenience spent dealing with insurance, and replacing and repairing our things.
Run and run fast from this moving company!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dan M.Napa, CA4729Mar 15, 2021
We needed some furniture pieces moved from Napa, CA to Jersey City, NJ. Did a lot of research and found lots of horror stories about other moving companies from the Better Business Bureau complaints website. This company had a great BBB rating and their price was the best.
Throughout the process they kept me informed, provided all necessary information in writing, and told us what to expect. They assigned a consultant to our move who was our contact person in San Francisco. Eric Rummel was our guy and he was outstanding.
Pickup was right on time, movers were polite, friendly, and professional. During the cross country trek they emailed me with their location on a daily basis. The Delivery was right on time and they gave the recipient plenty of notice. Delivery staff on that end were also polite, friendly, and professional. One piece required some creativity to get it up a stair case and they figured it out. All items made the trip unscathed!
Couldn't be more satisfied with a company. Highly recommended.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Adam B.San Francisco, CA03Jan 5, 2021
Criminals or Negligent - Likely both.
Be sure to come to CA - NY Express Movers if you are looking for the all around WORST cross country moving experience. From the moment you get in contact with them, to the day you open your boxes in your new home, I can ensure you that you will regret every moment. Damaged & "lost/missing" items are their specialty. Want evidence of the extreme level negligence? All you need to do is ask them why they no longer take American Express... They happily disclosed to me that they had too many people disputing the charges.
IF you, for some shocking reason, decide to use this company, I implore you to monitor VERY closely the items they list in your inventory - They will hand select valuables to leave out. That way, when they "lose" these items, there is no record they moved them... You can't even file an insure claim when this happens.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
