Manuchant Ltd. was formed in 1994 in order to provide affordable implants to the Jamaican population. At that time, the Orthopaedic training programme had started at the University of the West Indies. The cost of implants was prohibitive and only accessible by the rich and upper middle class.

Manuchant accessed and provided a wide range of implants for trauma surgery at affordable prices. Within the first year of business, they began to provide surgeons, for the first time in Jamaica, with a complete range of implants for Total Knee Arthroplasty and Total Hip Arthroplasty.

The trauma line expanded to include the unusual specialist plates, and by the following year, interlocking nails with a full range of implant choices was a reality. This coincided with the provision of much-needed power tools for Orthopaedic Surgery in the Public Hospitals.
